BACKGROUND
The 3rd BRICS Industry Ministers Meeting (July 2018) established the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR). The 10th BRICS Summit decided to commence its full operationalization and set up the PartNIR Advisory Group. Upholding the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation and in line with the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, the PartNIR aims to translate the vision of the second Golden Decade of BRICS Cooperation into reality through deepened BRICS cooperation in digitalization, industrialization, innovation, inclusiveness, and investment. The 11th BRICS Summit (Brasilia, November 2019), the 12th BRICS Summit (Moscow, November 2020), the 13th BRICS Summit (New Delhi, September 2021), the 14th BRICS Summit (Beijing, June 2022) and the 15th BRICS Summit (Johannesburg, October 2023) all reaffirmed the commitments to advance the PartNIR. The year of 2024 has witnessed historic BRICS expansion. The growing influence of the BRICS cooperation mechanism provides a broader space for advancing the BRICS PartNIR.

The 1st PartNIR Advisory Group Meeting (Johannesburg, December 2018) initiated the implementation process of PartNIR, with the participation of members from industry, communications, and other relevant administrations in BRICS countries. The 2nd BRICS PartNIR Advisory Group Meeting (Brasilia, September 2019) agreed on the Work Plan of the PartNIR. The Advisory Group Meeting of 2022 amended the Work Plan based on the inputs of various stakeholders. The PartNIR members are encouraged to propose initiatives and host events to implement the PartNIR Work Plan.

In view of the above, China has actively implemented the Work Plan, hosting the Contests for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. With a focus on policy coordination and human resources development, the Contest aims to create an effective platform to demonstrate outstanding projects and promote fair competition and mutual learning among BRICS members, building an enabling environment for industrial innovation and talent exchange.
CONTENT
To further promote the PartNIR, personnel training and capacity building in the field of new industrial revolution, we will continue to launch the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2024 in May 2024. Themed “Working Together to Build High-quality Partnerships and Embark on a New Journey of New Industrialization Cooperation”, the Contest will set up five tracks: “Artificial Intelligence—Large Language Models”, “Intelligent Manufacturing—Intelligent Equipment”, “Green Industries—Low-carbon Technologies and Applications”, “Low-altitude Economy—General Aviation” and “Energy Electronics—Photovoltaics and New Energy Storage”, to collect industrial products , applications, standards, and technologies with outstanding innovation features, excellent application effects, and considerable market prospects from BRICS countries.
AWARDS
Each of the five tracks will set one First Prize, two Second Prizes and three Third Prizes, awarding certificates and bonuses to the winners. In addition, there will be Outstanding Project and Outstanding Organization Prizes with certificates. The winning projects will be awarded during the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution in September 2024.
